Rainbow Eucalyptus Tree Care
Ideally, you will be growing your rainbow eucalyptus outdoors directly in the ground. These trees can gain three feet per year, so make sure to give them plenty of room to spread out. The trees prefer to grow in warm, moist climates and cannot tolerate frost.
Plant your tree in full sun, such as in a southern corner of your yard. If you are not in a humid area, you can install a sprinkler near the tree or be prepared to water often. Eucalyptus trees prefer moist, well-drained soil, so it's not a good idea to constantly soak the area; instead, allow the soil to become only moderately damp. In reality, to get the tree into your yard, you might want to start from seed indoors since the trees don't especially enjoy repotting, which causes root disturbance. Take a large container and place the seed in moist soil, placing it in full sun. After noticing that it has started to sprout, give it a few weeks to develop roots before planting it in the ground.
