Phoenix roebelenii Pygmy Date Palm, Roebelenii palm, Cold Hardy and low Maintenance.

The Phoenix roebelenii, commonly known as the Pygmy Date Palm, is a popular ornamental palm tree native to southeast Asia. It is a small, slow-growing palm that typically reaches a height of 6 to 10 feet with a spread of 6 to 10 feet.

The Pygmy Date Palm has a slender trunk covered in brown fibers and a dense crown of feathery, arching fronds. The fronds can grow up to 7 feet long and have a dark green coloration. The leaves are pinnate, or feather-like, and do have spines like the Canary Island Date Palm.

In terms of care, the Pygmy Date Palm prefers full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. It requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, but does not tolerate overwatering or standing water. This palm is also cold-hardy and can tolerate temperatures as low as 28°F (-2°C).

The Pygmy Date Palm is a popular choice for landscaping due to its small size, attractive appearance, and ease of care. It is often used as a border plant, accent plant, or container plant. If you are considering planting a Pygmy Date Palm, it is important to remember that it is a slow-growing plant that requires patience and attention, but it can make a beautiful addition to any landscape.🌴🌴🌴

Care and Maintenance

PLANTING, Palms can be planted all year round in tropical zones, select an area with FULL SUN to partial shade, ornamental palms are easily grown in a wide range of soils, including clay, alkaline and compacted soils, avoid wet soggy soils, once established palms are highly adaptable and drought resistant. When planting dig a hole twice as wide than your new plant's root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is parallel with the ground level, this is very important, planting the plant deeper than the original top soil line may severely damage the tree. Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated upright, use the excavated soil to back fill around the root ball, tamp down to ensure air pockets are eliminated, thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball. A 2-3 inch layer of organic hardwood mulch is strongly recommended, it will help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply the mulch over the entire planting area.

Repotting, Topical Palms can grow exceptionally well in pots for long periods of time, you'll only need to repot approximately every other year, do maintain a feeding schedule, the longer is kept in its existing pot the more nutrients are needed to maintain the plant happy and healthy. Once your Palm outgrows its original container, you can increase the pot size by 2 inches each time you repot to accommodate new growth.

Fertilizing, no need to fertilize right away, We fertilize our plants during the production phase with slow release fertilizer which can last an additional 3-5 months supplying residual nutrients to the plant. Fertilize during spring to summer base on label instructions. You may use a fertilizer formulated for tropical plants, preferably a slow release fertilizer 180 days duration.

Sun Exposure, Thrives in full sun, can tolerate partial shade as a potted plant.

Water, twice a week indoors, mist fronds 2-3 times a week to increase humidity and simulate it's native tropical environment. outdoors 2-3 watering's a week during the first growing season, after that rain water will suffix.

Pruning: Regular maintenance is needed, Palms will naturally shed lower fronds as new shoots are formed, Simply remove or cut off any fronds as they turn yellow or brown. This improves the look of your plant and stimulates new green fronds to grow healthier.
