Design with Plants

Where to place Croton plants in your landscape

Croton plants can add a vibrant pop of color to any outdoor space. They prefer bright, indirect sunlight and should be protected from strong winds. You can plant them in your garden beds or use them as a focal point in containers on your patio or balcony.

When planting outdoors, make sure to choose an area with well-drained, humus-rich soil. It's important to also keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. In colder regions, it's best to bring your croton indoors during winter months.

Indoor croton plants are equally stunning and have the added benefit of purifying indoor air. Place them near a sunny window where they can receive at least 4-6 hours of bright light per day. You can also rotate the plant every few weeks to ensure even growth.

When it comes to caring for your croton, regular watering and fertilizing are key. Water whenever the top inch of soil feels dry and use a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 months during the growing season. Pruning is also important in maintaining the plant's shape and promoting new growth.

Crotons are known for their colorful foliage, with varieties ranging from deep greens and yellows to bright reds and oranges. To keep their colors vibrant, make sure they get enough light and avoid placing them in drafty areas or near heating vents.

Care & Maintainance

Care Guide

PLANTING, Croton can be planted all year round in tropical zones, select an area with partial sun light to partial shade, ornamental palms are easily grown in a wide range of soils, including clay, alkaline and compacted soils, avoid wet soggy soils, once established palms are highly adaptable and drought resistant. When planting dig a hole twice as wide than your new plant's root ball and deep enough so that the top of the root ball is parallel with the ground level, this is very important, planting the plant deeper than the original top soil line may severely damage the tree. Place the plant in the hole and ensure that it is situated upright, use the excavated soil to back fill around the root ball, tamp down to ensure air pockets are eliminated, thoroughly soak with a hose as you fill in the dirt. Take great care to not leave any gaps or air spaces around the root ball. A 2-3 inch layer of organic hardwood mulch is strongly recommended, it will help retain moisture and discourage weed growth. Apply the mulch over the entire planting area.

Repotting, Croton can grow exceptionally well in pots for long periods of time, you'll only need to repot approximately every other year, do maintain a feeding schedule, the longer is kept in its existing pot the more nutrients are needed to maintain the plant happy and healthy. Once your Palm outgrows its original container, you can increase the pot size by 2 inches each time you repot to accommodate new growth.

Fertilizing, no need to fertilize right away, We fertilize our plants during the production phase with slow release fertilizer which can last an additional 3-5 months supplying residual nutrients to the plant. Fertilize during spring to summer base on label instructions. You may use a fertilizer formulated for tropical plants, preferably a slow release fertilizer 180 days duration.

Sun Exposure, Thrives in partial shade, can tolerate full sun, is container friendly.

Water twice a week indoors, mist fronds regularly to increase humidity and simulate it's native tropical environment. Outdoors water regularly during the first growing season, after that rain water will suffix.
