Hollywood Juniper, Juniperus chinensis, also known as Torulosa Juniper, named for its popularity in Los Angeles gardens, this twisted upright beauty provides unique form with deep green colors, can be used on entries, front yards, back yards, to create privacy between neighbors as it can be lined up as a hedge fence. The artistic appearance of its twisted rustic form makes this a wonderful landscape accent. An excellent evergreen for use as a topiary specimen in containers and formal gardens. Well-suited for cooler coastal regions.

Care Guide

PLANTING:

Choose a location with well-draining soil.
Dig a hole that is twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball.
Remove the tree from its container and loosen any roots that are tightly packed.
Place the tree in the hole and backfill with soil, making sure to eliminate any air pockets.
Water the tree well to settle the soil.

SOIL:

Prefers soil that is well-draining and neutral to slightly acidic.
Easily grown in a wide range of soils, including clay, alkaline and compacted soils
Avoid soil that is constantly wet.

MULCH:

Mulch the base of the tree with 2-3 inches of organic matter, such as leaves, bark, or wood chips.
Make sure the mulch is not in direct contact with the trunk.

LIGHT:

Thrives in full sun.
Avoid planting in areas with heavy shade.

WATER:

Water well every 2-3 days until established.
Increase frequency in extreme hot days.
Once established, water only during extended periods of drought.

FERTILIZE:

Fertilize during early spring with a slow-release fertilizer.

PRUNING:

Pruning is not necessary.
It will maintain its columnar growth habit naturally.

I ordered and received eight Hollywood junipers. They were packaged with two pots taped together for shipping. Six of the junipers were beautiful, but two of them that were taped together had upper foliage stripped. I sent photos with a request for replacement the day I received the plants. It has been four days and I have not gotten any response. I have not planted the damaged plants as their literature states that they will not replace anything that has been planted. Hopefully this issue will be taken care of soon.

Planted my Hollywood Juniper about two months ago; it has started unraveling nicely (came wrapped snugly obviously) even though I didn't expect it to budge with it being winter and all, so that's good.
