Ever wanted to have an Olive Tree of your own? Olive trees are native to the Mediterranean, are not too friendly to cold temperatures, and grow best outside. It's a good thing you can grow it inside.

Olive trees are such wonderful ornamental houseplants. As long as you get enough light, that's six hours at least in direct sunlight space. There is no reason you cannot add an indoor olive tree. For an olive tree to flower and bear fruit, the night and day temperatures must have quite drastic differences, which means that olive trees indoors aren't going to amaze you with their fabulous fruit. They don't live as long as the outside versions do: some can live for centuries. Although, that can be extended if you regularly place them outside during the warm months. But with or without fruit, an olive tree is a wonderful addition to an indoor collection.

Here are some tips to grow fruits indoors:

1. Don't Strain the Tree

The most important rule? Don't strain the tree. If you can't lift your tree safely, place it on something wheeled so it's easy to move.

And over time you can increase the length of time the plant is inside. Many fruit trees, such as citrus, need to build up their tolerance. Give your fruit tree a few days to a couple of weeks to acclimate to being indoors. Gradually, increase the time a tree is getting in direct sunlight or front of a window or the bathroom. Growing fruit trees outdoors generally need more watering, but when the trees are moved inside, the water schedule increases.

For example, if it's an indoor fruit tree, there could be the option of getting more water because it's moved by a kitchen or bathroom. If that's the case, it won't be necessary to water as often. Read more about  What are The Psychological Benefits of plants’.

2. Our Rule of (Green) Thumb:

When you stick a finger about 2 or 3 inches down and the soil is dry, your fruit tree is thirsty. Indoor fruit trees are also going to require a minimum of the equivalent of six hours of daylight every day. You can substitute a grow light can to solve this, or simply place them where they get as much light as possible and a south-facing window should suffice.

3. Final Checklist

Amidst all these changes, you should bear a few things in mind. For one thing, leaf drops and fruit drops are both normal, so in case they do happen: Do not worry. These "drops" are exactly just the sign that your Olive Tree, Avocado Tree, or whatever other edible plant that you have is adjusting to its new environment. So if all the leaves do die but do not all fall, go ahead and pluck them off the branches. You should see new leaves in about six weeks. You can readSome Easiest Fruit Trees To Growfor more details.

4. Water Schedule

Keep your young Avocado Tree well watered. At the same time, though, let those times between waterings be long enough that the soil is given enough time to dry out to avoid over-saturation. As a general guideline, provide your avocado with a deep watering once per week. In case you are in doubt about watering, check three inches deep in the soil around your avocado tree. Water if dry.

But the leaves of your Avocado Tree just love the humidity. All Avocado Trees should be misted daily, especially during months like winter when the heat is blasting. You also can find a humidifier close nearby for even more ease. Read more aboutBest Watering Tips for Happy, Healthy Plants’.
