Brazilian Grape Tree Plinia Cauliflora, Jaboticaba, Myrciaria cauliflora (Edible)

The Brazilian Grape Fruit Tree, scientifically known as Plinia cauliflora, is an intriguing and delicious tropical fruit tree native to Brazil. It is famous for its unique growth habit and its grape-like fruits that grow directly from its trunk and branches.

Unlike most fruit trees, the Jaboticaba tree bears fruit not only on its branches but also directly on its trunk. This cauliflorous growth pattern is unusual and gives the tree a striking appearance. The fruit clusters form along the trunk and branches, creating a magical sight when in full bloom.

The Jaboticaba fruit is small, round, and has a dark purple to black-colored skin. When ripe, it has a sweet and juicy pulp that resembles a combination of grapes and plums. The flavor can be described as a mix of sweet and tart, making it a delectable treat.

The fruit of the Jaboticaba tree is typically harvested by hand. Since they grow directly on the trunk and branches, it requires careful picking to avoid damaging the delicate fruits. Harvesting is usually done when the fruits are fully ripe and easily detach from the tree.

Jaboticaba fruits can be enjoyed fresh off the tree or used in various culinary preparations. They are often used to make jellies, jams, wines, liqueurs, and desserts. The sweet and tangy flavor of the fruit adds a unique twist to recipes.

The Jaboticaba fruit tree is not only visually captivating but also offers a delightful taste experience. If you're a fan of unique and exotic fruits, consider adding a Jaboticaba tree to your garden or orchard. Its fascinating growth habit and delicious fruits are sure to impress both visitors and taste buds alike.
